Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales
Every year I offer friends and family the option to ask me what I would buy when given a list of black Friday and cyber Monday sales.
This isn't what I would say is a good thing, buyers like some of my family think they know more than I do when it comes to electronics.
Often they get a great deal on something sold 10 years ago.
The plastic may look new but the chips may have been discontinued or repackaged because it didn't sell.
One tablet I have been watching over the last 3 black friday sales periods went from $199. (2011) to $149 (2012) to $65 (2013) and it's complete with a Texas Instruments chip that was not up to standards and caused issues that you might see as a lockup or really bad battery life. In any case this sale item back in 2011 is still going on sale and getting cheaper. Would I buy it now? NO! But you might so instead of dropping $150 on a different piece of junk why not $65 ?
Black Friday Sales often are sales of items discontinued or just not in today's technology levels.
Let's call out the TV's for a minute. 60Hz is yesterday's news, 720p is something you can find on the curb today. (Yard Sales)
Be aware of what you should be buying but don't let the fact you're buying old technology stop you from having fun.
I know when I buy electronics it's always tomorrows electronics.
I check the components on the boards, check manufacturers quality control standards, find out if the company has had financial issues, look at it's supply chain and then look at the overall technology offered.
Then I look at what new technology or design technology 2 years from now that my device will be perfect for.
I'm very experienced with matching components and I have to thank years of component service contracts for that.
If you have a sale item you would like for me to review feel free to setup a ticket or email me.
I'll be offering simple advice based on the product price to features and weighing the benefits you'll have compared to +/- 20% to other products not on sale.
Just remember one thing. Black Friday should be your gift and not my gift.
I want something of this decade and if you don't know ask!
Send your email to ticket [at] xtremecomputer .com for now. I'll have a ticket at mysmallcloud setup later today.
